Colmena: technological innovation to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

On September 27, Colmena participated in a round table on digital innovations and their contribution to the progress of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Digital innovations consist of creating new proposals with a close relationship with information and communication technologies.

The meeting, organized by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Global Innovation Gathering (GIG) community, had a particular focus on the African context and featured the participation of Ahunna Eziakonwa, UNDP Assistant Administrator and Director of the UNDP Regional Bureau for Africa, and Eleni Gabre-Madhin, Head of the Innovation Office of the UNDP Regional Bureau for Africa.

Together with other four German innovation initiatives engaged in projects in Africa, Colmena shared its work with the media in Burkina Faso and Côte d’Ivoire. They discussed the needs of these media to create and share their stories via the app and how Colmena is an inclusive ecosystem to bridge the digital divide.

Innovations such as Colmena’s make it possible to identify more effective solutions that add value to the people involved in development projects and make it possible to promote access to information, which has an impact on all the SDGs.

The event was an inspiring and motivating opportunity to learn about technological developments with a special focus on Africa. Colmena, as an emerging ecosystem, benefits from the expertise of other initiatives in the region.

More information on upcoming innovation events can be found on the Global Innovation Gathering website.
