Muy Waso’s workshop was part of a two-day event organized by the Network of Indigenous Communicators of Peru (Redcip). It was aimed at radio journalists with experience in producing their own broadcasts. The training provided them with new digital tools to make visible the needs of rural communities in the country.

These areas are often underrepresented in the country’s media. This prevents their problems and achievements from being portrayed and known by the rest of society. To address this situation, the event brought together thirty-five Peruvian communicators with experience in reporting on local community topics.

“During the workshop, we shared the podcast episodes we produced using Colmena. They were very well received. The younger participants were particularly impressed and very enthusiastic about them,”

says Michelle Nogales, one of the training facilitators.

Colmena’s initiative generated special interest among the participants, as it showed innovative solutions for producing digital content and the possibility of working offline, a very important aspect when operating in places with difficult Internet access.

The most experienced communicators identified in tools such as Colmena an alternative for continuous and low-cost radio production. They also valued the possibility of making their recordings without having to travel long distances to a local studio or station.

The younger participants, communications students from the Universidad Nacional del Altiplano, celebrated the creation of these forums for dialogue to bring to light the needs of the communities. At the same time, they were grateful to be able to disseminate their work in a safe and free space such as the one offered by the Colmena platform.

They also highlighted the possibility of having all the technological elements in one place, which facilitates the processes for those who produce and conduct radio programs. They mentioned the advantages of having contact with communicators and radio stations from different regions of Peru.

At the end of the workshop, the members of Redcip expressed their interest in continuing to coordinate activities related to the use of Colmena, as well as training communicators in innovation and digital security.
