During the event, Colmena’s team gave an explanatory session in which they showed the possibilities offered by the application for reporting in vulnerable or conflict areas. The media expressed their gratitude for the work done to date and provided important information that will allow further development of the software.

This special meeting also included a series of lectures, reflection circles, educational games, and individual coaching sessions. Ukrainian journalists had the opportunity to participate in a Lego workshop on educational games, given by journalist and designer Guy Degen.

The media were also invited to discuss with Denis Trubetskoy, an influential Ukrainian journalist who publishes in leading German media, how the Western media report the war in Ukraine.

“It is an opportunity to go beyond clichés (…) Ukraine will play a very important role in Europe’s post-war destiny,”

said Trubetskoy.

The MeetUp included key sessions that provided participants with some tips on how best to support staff in these challenging times, as well as how to boost creativity and secure more funding. The invited media noted that, through these activities, they will start 2023 equipped with new resilience resources.

Colmena made a commitment to continue researching how to provide a safe and resilient infrastructure for journalistic co-creation in Ukraine, as well as for the exchange of ideas and projects with media from other countries.

The MediaFit project, which started in June 2021 and is funded by the European Union and co-funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), is an ambitious initiative designed to support the resilience and qualification of regional journalists in Ukraine.
